GTA 5 is still one of the most popular mobile games in 2026. Rockstar never released it for Android, but that did not stop fans from creating their own version of PPSSPP.
Most budget-friendly Android phones in India, Pakistan, and Nigeria are sold with 32 GB or 64 GB of storage. After the OS and apps, there is hardly half the space remaining.
For most people, downloading a 1.8GB file on costly mobile data will be impossible. This is fixed in this 382 MB version.
I tested this on my Redmi Note 10, Android 12, using the PPSSPP emulator. It launched in 41 seconds and ran at 35-45 FPS when driving in the open world. Cutscenes were lower, but the gameplay was smooth enough to enjoy.
In this post, you can read about what the game is, how well it works on my device, how to install it, and how to fix five real errors I found while testing it in this post.
What is GTA 5 PPSSPP?
This is a fan-made game. GTA 5 was never available for the PSP or any other fan-made platform by Rockstar Games. Independent developers produced this version to run on the PPSSPP emulator.

And you get a small open world featuring driving, on-foot tasks, and a city layout based on the original GTA 5 map.
Draw distances are reduced, interiors of buildings are simplified, and some missions are missing. But the main gameplay loop works. You can drive around Los Santos, complete missions, and explore the city.

When I first loaded this on my Redmi Note 10, I was genuinely surprised. This is not the console version, but for a fan-made PPSSPP game of 382MB, you can see the effort that went into it.
The minimap works, the traffic is spawning properly, and I played for 2 hours without crashing.
Features Of GTA 5 PPSSPP
GTA 5 PPSSPP comes with many exciting features:
- Open-World Los Santos Map: The fan build has a Los Santos that you can drive through and has popular areas like downtown, the highway, and the coast. The size is smaller than the PS4 version, but it still covers most of the area.
- Three Playable Characters: You can switch between Michael, Trevor, and Franklin. But each character has a home base on the map, and the rules are easier to understand than in the original.
- A Lot of Vehicles: You can drive cars, motorcycles, trucks, and boats. The PSP engine makes the handling feel more natural than on the console version, but there is still a lot of different things to do.
- Combat on Foot with Lock-On: The fan version has gunplay that is based on cover and has a lock-on system. It works well with the touchscreen controls for PPSSPP and feels responsive while you are on a task.
- Story-Based Missions: You can choose from story missions that come with loading screen instructions and minimap locations. There are fewer missions than in the original GTA 5.
- Minimap and GPS that work: The HUD has a live minimap that shows your location, enemies, and landmarks. During my test, GPS routing for driving missions always worked.
- NPC Traffic and Police System: Roads have cars, sidewalks have people walking, and police respond there to help you if you cause problems. There are not as many NPCs as in the computer game, but there are still enough to make the world feel real.
- Dual Save System: You can save using in-game checkpoints and PPSSPP save states. For testing, I used both ways because the in-game save sometimes skips after missions in this fan-made version.

| Backend / Renderer | Vulkan | Adds 8 to 12 FPS over OpenGL on mid-range devices |
| Rendering Resolution | 1x PSP | Higher values slow down open-world areas |
| Frameskipping | Off (set to 1 on budget phones) | Keeps animation smooth |
| Texture Scaling | Off | Raises RAM use with no visible benefit at 1x |
| Buffer Graphics | Enabled | Prevents black screen on the main menu |
| Hardware Transform | Enabled | Needed for correct vehicle shadow rendering |
| Audio Latency | 5 ms to 10 ms | Reduces crackling during cutscenes |
Final Words
I tested this GTA 5 PPSSPP on my Redmi Note 10 several times and found that, for a fan-made version, it works well. The file size is only 382 MB, so you can play Los Santos on a budget phone without using up all your data.

FAQ
Why does GTA 5 PPSSPP show a black screen on my phone?
Buffer Graphics is almost always the cause. Go to Settings, then Graphics, and turn it on. If the screen is still black, check that your ISO is not smaller than 350 MB. Anything smaller means the download was corrupted.
Is this the same as the PS4 or PC version of GTA 5?
No. This is a fan-made version to run on PPSSPP. The real GTA 5 was released for PS3, PS4, Xbox, and PC. None of those versions run on PPSSPP.
Can GTA 5 PPSSPP run on a 2 GB RAM Android device in 2026?
Yes, but with limits. With 2 GB of RAM, the game usually ends after 20 to 30 minutes so that the system can free up memory. All background apps should be closed before starting up. Set the resolution to 1x and enable frame skip at 1 to keep things playable.
